Meta Mayne Reid (1905-1990)

British author. Bon in Yorkshire in 1905. Lived for a time in Northern Ireland where many of her books are set, including her one pony story. This is a fairly uncompromising and thought provoking children's novel which deals with 'The Troubles' and their effect on the lives of the children.

Ms. Reid has written more than twenty children's novels, a couple of adult books and a volume of poetry.

SUMMARY: Pony story set against the troubles in Northern Ireland.  When Clare is injured and her pet killed by a car bomb, she is deeply traumatised and is sent to the county to stay with her cousins Tom and Sarah. As the three children set out to save a horse from slaughter, Clare finds that life once more has a purpose.

Although not common, the book can be found reasonably easily by British collectors and is usually low cost. Harder to find elsewhere.
